With so many problems Metro Manila’s Line 3 mass transit rail system is having for…God knows how long, it has become a tiring and uneasy job for me to write about yet another issue about this darned rail line. Especially if you have been keeping abreast with the news about the metropolitan mass transit system for a long while now, which in my case, precedes that of the Urban Roamer. (which is turning 5 soon, but that’s another matter altogether)

But what happened last Wednesday afternoon, August 13, is something for the books. Who would have thought we would get to this record low? Maybe some of us did and it was just of matter of when. Still the fact that it actually happened is depressing that no snark or joke can alleviate the rage many of us feel for the failure of the people at the top in addressing the longstanding issues of mass transport.

Towards a Cable-Free City

There was a recent news item that reported about the Intramuros Administration’s actions in taking the first steps for the Walled City to be completely “cable-free,” which would mean that the distracting overhead wires coming from electrical, phone, and cable utilities would now be placed underground, giving an unobstructed view of the many landmarks in the area.

This development is the latest episode in the question of putting these cables that have long been seen overhead in most parts of the metropolis, something that has been a source of contention for some time.

More Traffic Woes and Common Station Mess

If you thought last Monday’s traffic armageddon was worse enough traffic to experience on this first week of August, well…think again. Especially if you live in the southern part of Metro Manila and beyond.

The Department of Public Works and Highways has recently announced that the southbound portion of the Magallanes Interchange (the elevated road network at the intersection of EDSA and Osmeña Highway) will be closed to traffic due to the ongoing rehabilitation project of the said interchange.

August 4 was yet another chaotic Monday as people were off to go to work, school, or whatever business that was needed to be done. Only that this particular Monday here in good old Metro Manila was more chaotic than usual. No thanks to not one, but two incidents of horrendous traffic that are the stuff of nightmares.

It all began early morning before daybreak when a truck along the southbound portion of C-5 near the intersection of Kalayaan Avenue, which originally got stalled on the road, began experiencing problems with the brakes and eventually rammed through 8 vehicles. One reportedly died in this collision and 7 others were injured.
