Trying To Save A Life

For the past few days, the talk of the town, and of the country as a whole, was the fate of Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipina who is facing the death penalty in Indonesia for attempting to smuggle illegal drugs in the country back in 2010.

Veloso has maintained her innocence as she stressed the drugs were put in her belongings without her knowledge and that she went to Indonesia solely for work and not to bring in drugs. Nevertheless, the Indonesian court ruled that she would sentenced to death by execution, thus triggering a wave of action calling for Mary Jane’s life be spared from the firing squad.

Mercato @ Glorietta: Mercato Centrale’s New Makati Venture

As someone who has been somewhat abreast with the developments in the metropolis, the Urban Roamer knows all too well the travails of Mercato Centrale with its several attempts to establish itself in the Makati CBD area. There was the food truck concept at Glorietta 1 Park to the one at the carpark rooftop to the one inside Glorietta mall itself, all of them eventually fizzled out.

Now Mercato Centrale is making another attempt to establish themselves in Makati, this time at the Glorietta 4 Park. There are no fancy concepts, just the straight-old Mercato experience folks have come to love known as the Mercato @ Glorietta.

BGC’s Bibliophile Haven

We normally think of Bonifacio Global City (BGC) as a bustling business and commercial district where many work, shop, and have fun. But BGC is also making a mark as a place for learning and knowledge with the presence of its landmark science-themed museum The Mind Museum not to mention the Korean Cultural Center where you can learn Korean culture in its many aspects from the traditional to the modern. (AKA the Korean wave)

Other than those 2 prominent landmarks, there is also another place to learn in this busy district, serving as an oasis of knowledge in the midst of tall skyscrapers with its rich collection of books, photographs, postcards, and other materials related to the Philippines. Today, we shall take a look inside this one of a kind and under-the-radar type of library.
