Cine Europa 17

The Urban Roamer is not just about places or events. From time to time, it indulges in appreciating art in any form…in this case, the art of cinema. What better way to indulge in such aspects than to check out this annual event that celebrates European cinema: the Cine Europa.

Organized by the European Union in the Philippines, Cine Europa is an annual film festival which showcases films produced by some of the EU’s member countries (+ Norway and Switzerland, which are not EU members) for free, thus giving moviegoers an opportunity to be acquainted with the best in contemporary European cinema.

As it was the case in the past years, the 17th staging of Cine Europa was held at the Shang Cineplex of the Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong. And being a free screening, there was a long queue to the theater. So if you plan to watch one of the films, better go early.

Perhaps most noteworthy of the film showcased in this year’s Cine Europa is the film “Metro Manila,” a British-production with a Filipino setting and cast. It currently holds a 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is adored by audiences and critics alike. And having been lucky to watch it recently, the Urban Roamer concurs with the general praise the film has been getting.

While the film festival started last September 11, it is not yet too late to catch a film in this festival as it will run until September 21. Do check out the list of films to be screened as well as their scheduled screenings through this link here. Do check a film out and appreciate cinematic excellence that Europe has to offer.
