It has often been stressed here and in other sites that Manila’s Quiapo district is like a diamond in the mud. There are so many beauty to be discovered in the midst of the urban decay which sadly permeates this part of the city. Nevertheless, there are some reasons to be hopeful for Quiapo, with the presence of preserved landmarks like the Bahay Nakpil-Bautista, the ongoing efforts to restore Kasa Boix, and a revived heritage structure which the Urban Roamer will be writing about today, the Padilla House.

Metro Manila’s Flood-Prone Areas (as per the MMDA)
It has been about a month now in the rainy season this year, and the Metro Manila Development Authority just recently released a list of areas in the metropolis susceptible to flooding. So be mindful whenever there’s a heavy rain and to not find yourself at or nearby one of the areas listed below:

A Supertall Tower in the Philippines Soon?
It’s been a while since the Urban Roamer touched upon the landmark that was the Manila Seedling Bank. Since that last update, the Quezon City government shut the facility down for good with the former plant dealers relocated elsewhere, notably at a spot in the Quezon Memorial Circle called the “Hardin ng mga Bulaklak” or garden of flowers. And what a coincidence that the initials of Hardin ng mga Bulaklak and that of the Quezon City mayor at this time of writing is eerily the same. Wow, amazing. So what does the Quezon City government planning to do with this prime piece of property in the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue, right…

It Will Be Sangley (An Airport Update)
The Department of Transportation and Communication has just spoken: the new Manila International Airport will be built in Sangley Point in Cavite City. This announcement came on the heels of the recently-released report of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which recommended that the new airport be built in the area, something the Urban Roamer has touched upon in a recent post. And it seems the DOTC is intent on following that particular recommendation.
