The Metro And Pokemon Go

After weeks of anticipation, it is now officially here. I am of course talking about Pokémon Go, which became officially available in the country on Saturday, August 6, stealing the thunder from the opening of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro that happened at the same day. (sorry, Rio Olympics)  And so far, the response to this game among Filipinos has been, just as it has been elsewhere in the world where Pokémon Go has been officially launched so far (not counting of course those who managed to bypass geographical restrictions so they can play it in their corner of the globe)

But what makes this particular game so popular? There have been many explanations behind this new phenomenon, which I’m sure sound a lot better than what I may offer. After all, the Urban Roamer is by no means a gamer, just an occasional casual one. But as someone who has found himself drawn to the interactive charms of this mobile game, I have found myself to be part of the bandwagon enjoying it for what it’s worth, though not as hardcore as others have been. From Macau to Manila: A City of Dreams Realized

Entertainment City in Parañaque still has a long way to go, but so far things are moving forward as far as developments in the area are concerned. Solaire Resort and Casino has been doing well so far as a new player in the area emerges to stir up the landscape there, so to speak. The fact that this new player even made an effort to put up an ad featuring Academy Award winners in the persons of director Martin Scorcese and actors Robert de Niro and Leonardo Di Caprio is indication enough of how serious it is.

With that ad that went viral in the first few weeks of 2015, City of Dreams Manila has managed to create quite an impression as it gears up for its grand opening today. Unfortunately, the Urban Roamer will be missing out this event. However, I did manage to check it out a few days past during its soft opening.

Solaire Expands

It’s been a while since the Urban Roamer visited Solaire Resort and Casino. But it’s good to know that Enrique Razon’s gaming venture in Entertainment City has been at work ever since to make itself better. After all, being the first to open in the area, it has somehow set a precedent as to how Entertainment City is going to be, not to mention it has to keep itself ahead, especially with the arrival of a new player there. (which we will get to in a future entry here)

Thus last November, Solaire opened a new addition to its entertainment complex, the Sky Tower, which seeks to give an additional vibe and character to the complex and top up on the current Solaire experience by making it better. How better? Let’s take a look. Continue reading

just opened: Newport City’s Resorts World Manila

Last August 28, a new landmark in the metropolis was unveiled in a “soft launch” of sorts.

Yes, the Urban Roamer was there on the opening of Resorts World Manila, the gaming entertainment project of Alliance Global, Star Cruises, and Megaworld (the same developers behind Eastwood City among others) located on the yet-to-be-completed business-commercial hub of Newport City, which also happens to be another project of Megaworld.
