Ohayo Gozaimasu, Okada Manila!

First of all, apologies for the lack of new content the past week. I had issues with my computer that needed to be resolved and thankfully all is well now.

Also, today’s entry is something long overdue as well. But until recently, the Urban Roamer has not had the time to check out this new metropolitan landmark. But it was good to see how things have progressed since it first opened as chances are at least it has taken more form now.

With that said, the Urban Roamer has finally stepped inside the youngest (so far) landmark in the growing Entertainment City complex, the Okada Manila.

From Macau to Manila: A City of Dreams Realized

Entertainment City in Parañaque still has a long way to go, but so far things are moving forward as far as developments in the area are concerned. Solaire Resort and Casino has been doing well so far as a new player in the area emerges to stir up the landscape there, so to speak. The fact that this new player even made an effort to put up an ad featuring Academy Award winners in the persons of director Martin Scorcese and actors Robert de Niro and Leonardo Di Caprio is indication enough of how serious it is.

With that ad that went viral in the first few weeks of 2015, City of Dreams Manila has managed to create quite an impression as it gears up for its grand opening today. Unfortunately, the Urban Roamer will be missing out this event. However, I did manage to check it out a few days past during its soft opening.

Solaire Expands

It’s been a while since the Urban Roamer visited Solaire Resort and Casino. But it’s good to know that Enrique Razon’s gaming venture in Entertainment City has been at work ever since to make itself better. After all, being the first to open in the area, it has somehow set a precedent as to how Entertainment City is going to be, not to mention it has to keep itself ahead, especially with the arrival of a new player there. (which we will get to in a future entry here)

Thus last November, Solaire opened a new addition to its entertainment complex, the Sky Tower, which seeks to give an additional vibe and character to the complex and top up on the current Solaire experience by making it better. How better? Let’s take a look. Continue reading

An Entertainment City taking shape: the opening of Solaire Resort and Casino

Last March 16, the cityscape was buzz and all frenzied with the opening of a new gaming venue in the metropolis: the Solaire Resort and Casino. The Urban Roamer found himself among the hundreds of guests who flocked there at opening day along with some high-profile personalities and a great number of international guests.

What makes the opening of Solaire Resort and Casino notable is the fact that it is the first facility to open in the planned “Entertainment City” (or more formally known as the Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City, that is if plans of building a new Nayong Pilipino in the complex has not yet been scrapped or something) that was first conceived years ago by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to be Manila’s answer to Macau and Singapore as a premiere gaming and entertainment destination. So no, it’s not just casinos but there will be shopping malls, a theme park, and other facilities that the whole family can go to. Continue reading
