A Sweet, Good Food Tour in Alabang

It has been a long while since the Urban Roamer joined a food tour. So I was fortunate and excited to take part in a food tour again. Never mind if the place where the tour will be held is very much far away from the usual haunts. In this case, the far south of the metropolis in the Alabang Town Center area.

This particular food tour is actually the latest edition in the series food tours being held since last year called the “Good Food Tour”. This tour series is organized by foodpanda, an online food delivery service that delivers food from various partner restaurants. Each Good Food Tour event offers something different. For this edition, being the month of love and all, the food tour was all about desserts. This is going to be sweet.

Thank You FlipTrip!

Last Wednesday, your Urban Roamer was at A Space Manila for what is known as a “travel meetup” organized by the cool folks at FlipTrip. It was an opportunity for this self-confessed travel bug to meet up and network with fellow travel bugs and perhaps pick an idea or two for my next trip.

Admittedly, I haven’t been to as much adventures as I wanted to due to stuff that has happened in my life recently. But now that everything seems to have settled down, I am ready to go to more places in the future. And this time, with some company since traveling solo all these years can be dull and hurts on my budget too much, hehe.

Truth be told, this was actually the second time I’ve been at a FlipTrip event as I went to a travel meetup held last December. But I would say this second meetup I’ve been to is more memorable, for reasons I’ll be detailing in a bit. Continue reading

The Urban Roamer Loves Google Street View! (for the most part)

The technology used in maps has evolved a lot in recent years. From the flat graphic imagery, we are now seeing rich 3D satellite imagery to give us a better idea of what a place looks like, especially places we have not been to before.

Then came the next phase in mapping technology when Google introduced Street View in 2008, providing users with an interactive and panoramic view of different neighborhoods around the world.

After making it available in different countries around the world over the years, finally Google has managed to make Street View officially available in the country which a launch held recently. Now Filipinos like the Urban Roamer can roam almost the entire metropolis and other parts of the country virtually without having to pay for expensive transportation to get there.

Tragedy in Valenzuela

Last Wednesday, May 13, the metropolis was stunned by the news of a giant fire that consumed a two-storey building in Valenzuela, causing the deaths of 72 people (at this time of writing) and may rise in the coming days as authorities are still trying to retrieve any remaining bodies.

The structure in question is a factory building that belongs to Kentex Manufacturing Inc., a slippers manufacturer based in the city’s Barangay Ugong and most of the dead were workers in the said factory. The circumstances have not been solidly established yet; nevertheless, it serves as a grim reminder yet again of the importance of fire safety and preparedness of the structures located in the metropolis. Notes From Blogopolis 2015

The Urban Roamer is proud to be part of the Nuffnang community. Thus, it has been a privilege for me to be able to attend what is probably Nuffnang’s most-looked forward to event that happens every year, the blog/social media conference event called Blogopolis.

This year’s Blogopolis was held last February 21 at the Dusit Hotel in Makati with the theme “Shifting Gears” in which participants got to learn a lot about making a shift in the online realm, whether it is about the platform, advocacy. or even influence people make that shift as far as their tastes and opinions are concerned. The guests for Blogopolis 2015 are no slouch either as they are esteemed and influential names in the Philippine online community. Continue reading
